being from chicago, but not living there anymore, i always want to surround myself of things that remind me of home. i love this poster that features all the Chicago’s neighborhoods in a typographic way. simple and informative, and fun! i found it at Ork Posters! and they come in an array of colors, screenprinted and not. i’m definitely getting one. too bad they don’t come in smaller sizes… i would absolutely get prints of other cities i have visited! but unfortunately, at the poster size they are at, i’d run out of wall space if I bought more than one!
i can get lost just digging around on etsy. seriously. what i did find this morning was a drawing done by cathy nichols. i’ve always been obsessed with that giant swingie- thing at amusement parks. love the perspective and movement and the added touch of the red shoes, like dorothy caught up in the wind. her etsy store is full of whimiscal images like this.
a co-worker of mine sent me this video from you tube. stop motion just makes me happy. i would have loved to be on set to just to see how it was done. i love how they use a plain ol’ bed as a canvas to create something beautiful.
okay, i’ve been terrible at keeping up with this blog. i don’t know what happens…i get caught up with the everyday grind and i forget to post something. or most of the time, i’m too exhausted to even turn on my laptop.
but alas, i’m reviving this blog from the dead and doing my damnest to keep up daily, or at least every-other-daily. there. i said it. it’s documented now!
as a graphic designer, there’s a lot of great design work out there i admire. wink out of minneapolis is one of those studios i have a design crush on. when i come across their work in the design annuals, i’m always impressed. this is one of my favorite branding campaigns from them – for marshall field’s…(as a chicago native, i still heart marshall fields, even though it’s gone!) check out more of wink’s work.
i saw this paper lamp designed by tord boontje and fell in love with it instantly. it’s called “midsummer light”. love the intricacy of the cut floral shapes and how they drape down like fabric. so pretty.
okay, i’m back. for good. no more slacking on posts. i’m resurrecting this blog and i swear i’ll be good at keeping up with posts. it’s just been a crazy fall season that just flew by. it’s hard to believe that snow’s on the ground and the holidays are right around the corner. i have a feeling i’ll be shopping last minute — like i do every year. speaking of gift giving, saw this hilarious ad for jcpenney’s, done by saatchi and saatchi nyc and razorfish, i believe. if you’re married like me, you probably relate.
i took this photo of my 1 yr old nephew at my other nephew’s 6th birthday party a couple Sundays ago. he was totally amazed by a bunch of yellow balloons that were tied together and anchored by a bag of jolly ranchers. he carried the bunch around with him all day long, and was perfectly content. Ah, it’s the little things in life!
so i was in anthropologie the other day and i was eyeing up this dress to wear for a wedding i’m going to in a couple weeks. i was immediately drawn to the bright yellow color with the pretty detail of the embroidered purple flowers. so i tried it on and felt like i was wrapped in sunshine. (and of course i bought it!)
i’m recently fell upon this photography blog Bloom, Love, Grow and am in love with the imagery on it. each photo is thoughtfully framed to give you a feeling of quiet serenity. it’s like the visual equivalent of laying on a hammock on a lazy summer day. i love the look of the polaroid…there’s a timelessness to them that’s hard to replicate. makes me want to invest in one.
